Products To Try: Seeds Of Change Tikka Masala Sauce

I have been rather bored with my dinner menus lately, so I went looking for new healthy-but-low-calorie options. While in Whole Foods I found Seeds of Change Tikka Masala sauce, which is only 2 PTS per serving (1/3 cup). Now, I am not a huge fan of Indian Food, but I learned to like tikka masala because many of my friends love Indian and I didn’t want to miss out on group dinners.

I made chicken tikka masala with this sauce for dinner last night and it was really, really tasty. Just like the sauce at the Indian restaurant they all love in the center of town. I served it tonight with whole wheat couscous, but it would be equally as good with brown rice. (I just didn’t have any.)  The whole thing was 8 PTS, which is pretty reasonable for dinner. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Perdue Perfect Portions plain chicken breast, sliced into pieces and sauteed in canola oil cooking spray (3)
  • 1/3 cup of tikka masala sauce (2)
  • 1 serving of whole wheat couscous made with low sodium vegetable broth (3)

I didn’t see the need for any naan – unnecessary carbs. But if you have to have it, Stop & Shop carries a whole wheat naan. A coworker today also recommended Trader Joe’s naan, although I haven’t investigated the PTS of that so check the label before you buy. If you want naan, consider eating only 2/3 cup of rice to subtract one PT from the meal.

For veggies I had a salad with 1 tsp olive oil and some balsamic vinegar. That added an extra PT, and all in all I had a delicious, filling, restaurant quality dinner that was actually good for me. If you like Indian, definitely give Seeds of Change sauces a try!
